BASICALLY BASIE COMPETITION ADJUDICATOR AND CLINICIAN

with Jim Mair

KANSAS CITY JAZZ SUMMIT – It was a great day serving as an adjudicator and clinician with former Count Basie Orchestra drummer Butch Miles (Ludwig), Dr. Justin Binek (KCKCC), the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra’s lead trumpeter, Steve Malloy and the great drummer Scott Prebys (Ludwig) for the 2018 “Basically Basie Competition” in Kansas City.

Along with the 340+ talented students, we heard 20 outstanding student bands. The featured photograph of this post is of festival judges with members of the “Basically Basie Competition” winner, Olathe Northwest High School’s – Raven Jazz I.

Thanks to Professor Jim Mair and Kansas City Jazz Alliance for producing this festival. The Kansas City Jazz Alliance preserves and advances the art form of jazz in Kansas City by inspiring and developing the next generation of jazz artists, educators, and supporters through educational programs and concert performances. This post features some photo gallery highlights and the entire Day 3 video stream from the Kansas City Jazz Summit.
